Improving connectivity at Merinda Park Station

Melbourne is growing and we’re adding more capacity to our transport network to provide better services and reliability for passengers.

That’s why we're improving accessibility for public transport users with a new bus interchange, upgraded commuter car park and pedestrian access improvements at Merinda Park Station. These works will ensure critical transport infrastructure meets Victoria’s future operational needs and increased demands on the network.

Why are we upgrading Merinda Park Station?

Rail upgrades are essential to meeting the needs of fast-growing areas in Melbourne’s south east.

In 2022 the Victorian Government’s Level Crossing Removal Project rebuilt Merinda Park Station with two new platforms and a better layout. The rebuild was part of the Cranbourne Line duplication which is allowing more trains to run more often.

We’re now building a new bus interchange at Merinda Park Station to improve accessibility for public transport users and support greater connectivity in the region.

To accommodate the new bus interchange and support growth in the area, we’re also upgrading the eastern commuter car park and the western car park to improve safety for all users.

Pedestrian safety will be improved in the eastern communter car park with new zebra crossings, footpath upgrades, new tactile ground surface indicators and signage.

These upgrades will give public transport users better connections between their train and local bus services and encourage the use of more sustainable transport modes to and from the station.

This project is supported by the Growth Areas Infrastructure Contribution Fund, which supports the delivery of state and regionally significant infrastructure projects in Melbourne’s growing communities.

When will works take place?

Construction on the new bus interchange in the eastern commuter car park began in September 2023 and completion is expected in early 2024.

Works to convert the gravel triangle land into a permanent western car park commenced in late January 2024 and we anticipate these works will be complete by mid 2024. During this time, this car park will be closed. Parking is permitted in designated areas only.

Passengers who wish to drive and park at a station can travel to Dandenong and Lynbrook stations. Alternatively, passengers can catch public transport, cycle or walk to Merinda Park Station.

Accessible parking will remain available at the station.

We’ll update the community again ahead of works taking place.
