Timetable changes on the Hurstbridge and Mernda lines

Network news: Hurstbridge and Mernda lines

From Sunday 28 May 2023, there will be new train timetables for the Hurstbridge and Mernda lines. There will also be changes to the timetables of 20 bus routes on the same date to align them with the new Hurstbridge and Mernda line timetables. Passengers should check their timetable before traveling.

What’s changing on the Hurstbridge Line?

  • 39 extra services will be added every week, 25 will be at peak times and 14 at other times, giving passengers more travel options.
  • There will be two extra weekday services into the city before 7.15 am.
  • There will be two extra weekday services during the morning peak.
  • There will be one extra weekday service during the afternoon peak.
  • There will be one extra weekday service in the evening.
  • Hurstbridge passengers will benefit from improved service reliability and a more consistent timetable around peak times.
  • All AM peak services will now stop at stations between Clifton Hill and Jolimont but there will be no increase in journey time.
  • There will be other minor changes to services on the line and passengers should check the timetable and plan ahead before they travel.​

 What’s changing on the Mernda Line?

  • 35 extra services will be added every week, 25 will be at peak or shoulder peak times and 10 at other times giving passengers more travel options.
  • There will be one extra weekday service into the city before 7.15 am.
  • There will be one extra weekday service during the morning peak.
  • There will be two extra weekday services before 4:30pm.
  • There will be two extra weekday services in the evening.
  • Mernda passengers will benefit from improved service reliability and a more consistent timetable throughout the day.
  • There will be changes to stopping patterns in the morning and afternoon peaks with some trains running express services between Victoria Park and Jolimont stations.
  • Early morning service layover timesat Flinders Street will be reduced to two minutes, giving City Loop passengers a shorter journey 
  • Passengers should check the timetable and plan ahead before they travel.
